1980’ler İtalya kırsalı, Toskana bölgesi. Gizemli bir İngiliz olan Arthur, hapis cezasını tamamlayıp tepelerdeki yıkık dökük evine döner. Tarihi eser hırsızlığını iş edinen bir arkeolog olan Arthur, mezar soygunculuğu yapan gürültücü müzik grubu tombaroli üyeleriyle birlikte Etrüsk hazineleri peşinde muazzam kırları araştırır. Arthur’un amacı sonunda onu ve arkadaşlarını zengin edecek büyük hazineyi bulmaktır; bu onların Kimera’sıdır: Tombaroli üyeleri için Kimera, çalışmadan kolay bir yaşam sürmek anlamına gelir. Arthur’un Kimera’sı yitirdiği aşkı Beniamina’dır. Onu bulmak için görünmez olana meydan okur, her yeri arar, öbür dünyanın mitlere konu olan kapısını bulmak için yeraltına girer. Yaşayanlar ve ölüler, ormanlar ve şehirler, kutlamalar ve yalnızlıklar arasında geçen bu maceralı yolculukta kendi Kimera’larının peşindeki karakterlerin iç içe geçen kaderi ortaya çıkar.

Italian countryside, around Tuscany, circa 1980. Arthur is a mysterious Englishman, who returns to his ramshackle home in the hills after serving a jail sentence. He’s a rogue archaeologist, part of a rowdy troupe of a grave-robbing group known as tombaroli; they poke around the ruggedly magnificent rural terrain in search of Etruscan treasures. Arthur aims to pull off the big job that will finally make him and his friends rich: this is their Chimera. For the band of tombaroli, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, and goes inside the earth in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.
