Oplev Oue'da doğdu. !996 yapımı Filmi Porland 46. Berlin Uluslararası Film Festivali'ne girdi.
2009 yılında Stieg Larsson'un Ejderha Dövmeli Kız romanını beyazperdeye taşıdı. Oplev zaman kısıtlamaları nedeniyle Millennium Üçlemesinin ikinci ve üçüncü bölümleri yönlendirerek devam etmemeye karar verdi. Film Avrupa'da gişe rekorları kırdı, 100 milyon dolar gelir elde etti.
