Usta yönetmen son belgeseli “Sedef Düğme”de Şili’nin politik tarihindeki kayıplarıyaşamın kaynağı olan suyun hafızasında arıyor ve buluyor.Sömürgeciliğin yok olmaya mahkum ettiği Patagonya yerlisi su göçerlerinin ve Pinochet diktatörlüğü sırasındaokyanusta yitip giden Şili’li muhaliflerin hikayesiiki sedef düğmeyle birbirine bağlanıyor. “Sedef Düğme” şiirsel sinema dilinin arkasındaki gerçekçi ve keskin bakışıyla hafızanın önemine vurgu yapıyor.

In his most recent documentary “The Pearl Button”, the great director searches and finds the losses of Chile’s political history in the memory of water which is the source of life. Two stories about indigenous water nomads of Chilean Patagonia who were condemned to disappear by colonialism and Chilean opponents who vanished in the ocean during the Pinochet dictatorship are connected each other through two pearl buttons. “The Pearl Button” underlines the importance of memory with its realist and sharp look which is standing behind its poetic visual language.

Patricio Guzmán

Belgesel sinemanın önde gelen yönetmenlerinden birisi olan Patricio Guzmán 1941’de Santiago’da doğdu.Madrid’deki Official Film School’dan mezun oldu. 1975 yılında Allende yönetiminive bu dönemin sona erişini3 bölümde anlatan 5 saatlik “The Battle of Chile” (Şili Savaşı) belgeselini çekti. Askeri darbeden sonra tutuklandı. Santiago Ulusal Stadyumu’nda infazla tehdit edildiği 2 hafta geçirdi. 1973 yılında Şili’den ayrılarak yaşamını önce Küba’da, daha sonra İspanya ve Fransa’da sürdürdü.1997’de kurduğu Santiago Uluslararası Belgesel Film Festivali’nin (FIDOCS) başkanlığını yürütmekte olan usta yönetmen, Şili’nin geçmişine dair sorular soran ve ülkesinin politik tarihini araştıran önemli belgeseller üretmeye devam ediyor.

One of the prominent directors of the documentary cinema, Patricio Guzmán was born in Santiago in 1941. He studied at the Official Film School in Madrid.In 1975 he filmed “The Battle of Chile”, a five-hour documentary in 3 episodes about Allende’speriod of government and its fall.After the coup d’état, Guzmán was arrested and spent two weeks in the Santiago National Stadiumwhere he was threatened with simulated executions on several occasions.He left the country in1973 and moved to Cuba, then Spain and France.He currently chairs the International Documentary Film Festival in Santiago Chile (FIDOCS) that he founded in 1997. He keeps producing remarkable documentaries which are asking questions about the past of Chile and investigating the political history of his country.
