1887 yılında 17 yaşında ölen Chrysoula, İstanbul’a 100 km uzaklıktaki küçük bir köydeki evlerinin zeminine gömüldü. 37 yıl sonra Chrysoula’nın ailesi nüfus mübadelesi nedeniyle onu evin zemininde gömülü bırakıp Kuzey Yunanistan’a sınır dışı edildi. 100 yıl sonra bu eski evde yaşayan bir aile zemin tamiratı yaparken Chrysoula’nın mezar taşını buldu. Film yönetmen Kerem Soyyılmaz’ın 2016’da taşın bulunması, taşın ailesinin araştırılması ve 2022’de Selanik’te son bulan arayış üzerine kendi ve ailesinin başından geçenleri anlattığı bir öykü. Rodakis’i Ararken Türkiye ve Yunanistan halklarını bir mezar taşı üzerinden birleştiren, tarihi kopuklukları gözden geçirirken yeni yaklaşımlar getiren bir belgesel. Ulus devlet yaratım sürecinde gözden kaçmış olan, din bazlı ayrışmanın basit insanların basit hayatları üzerindeki etkisine dair, nüfus mübadelesi ve cumhuriyetin 100. yılında anlamlı bir hikaye.
In 1887, Chrysoula died at the age of 17 and was buried in the floor of their house in a small village 100 km from Istanbul. 37 years later, Chrysoula's family was deported to Northern Greece due to the population exchange, leaving her buried in the floor of the house. 100 years later, a family living in this old house found Chrysoula's tombstone while repairing the floor. The film's story is director Kerem Soyyılmaz's personal story about the discovery of the stone in 2016, the search for the stone's family, and the search that ended in Thessaloniki in 2022. Searching for Rodakis is a documentary that unites the peoples of Turkey and Greece through a tombstone and brings new approaches while reviewing historical disconnects. It is a meaningful story about the effect of religion-based segregation on the simple lives of simple people, which was overlooked in the process of nation-state creation, in the 100th anniversary of the population exchange and the republic.
Kerem Soyyılmaz
Yeditepe Üniversitesi ve New York Film Academy’de aldığı eğitimler sonrası reklam film yönetmeni olarak çalıştı. 5 yıldır Kopenhag’da yaşıyor, film çalışmalarının yanı sıra Danimarka-Türkiye arası kültürel projelerde yönetici olarak çalışmakta. Rodakis’i Ararken kendisinin ilk uzun metrajlı filmi.

He was born and raised in Besiktas, Istanbul. With a background in commercial films, this is his first documentary feature. He is based in Copenhagen, working on film and cross-cultural projects between Denmark and Turkey.
