Emily Dickenson’ın şiirleriyle Terence Davies’in sinemansın birleştiği filmde Davies, şairin öğrencilik yıllarından başlayarak hayatının büyük bir bölümünü anlatıyor. Sanatçı olarak tanınmaya çalıştığı yıllarda Dickenson’ın cinsiyet eşitsizliği ve sanatın bulunduğu nokta konusundaki umutsuzluğunu ve büyüyen yalnızlığını büyük bir başarıyla anlatan film, Davies’in sözcükleriyle Dickenson’ınkileri buluşturuyor. Davies’in özellikle seçtiği şiirler tam da olması gereken yerlerde kullanılarak filmin seyirci üzerindeki etkisini de pekiştiriyor.

The film combines Terence Davies’ cinema and Emily Dickenson’s poems as Davies narrates the large portion of Emily Dickenson’s life starting from her years as a student. Davies’ and Dickenson’s words meet in this film, depicts the desperation and growing loneliness of Dickenson and her concerns about gender inequality and the status of art in the years she struggled to make a name; with great success. The poems specifically chosen by Davies both fit their place perfectly and intensify the effect of the film over the audience.
