Jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye and Cappadocia University:
Mawlid Performance
ABOUT THE MAWLID COMPOSITION
In accordance with the decision taken at the 41st General Conference held by UNESCO between November 9-24, 2021, the "600th Anniversary of the Death of Süleyman Çelebi" has been included in the 2022 UNESCO Anniversaries of Remembrance and Celebration.
Our Presidency's Circular No. 2022/6 dated June 2nd, 2022, emphasizes that Mawlid is a common cultural value in many countries, especially the Balkans and Central Asia, and aims to commemorate Süleyman Çelebi.
The Mawlid, called Vesiletü'n-Necat, was composed in 1956 by calligrapher, composer, tanburi, the last period representative of our classical arts, and Quran lover Hafız Kemal Batanay, and was introduced to our classical music.
The only example of this form being present in our country, and being at the forefront of its promotion 67 years later, has been fated for such a special night, “The Night of Mercy and Grace.’
The late Kemal Batanay composed the 12 bahirs of Mawlid-i Sherif with eighty-nine modes and ten different rhythms of our music. Today, only two hymns and some parts from five bahirs of the work, consisting of 1049 lines of music notes, will be performed.
