Istanbul State Modern Folk Music Ensemble
Anatolia is a land with thousands of years of history and culture. It is the place where verses and riddles are sang. Anatolia is the place where our folk songs, Türküs, derive their "ignition", as it is referred. Is there a nation that loves folk songs as much as we do and a folk poet as much as we do? We have always told about our lives, our love, our longing, our troubles and our joys through folk songs. We expressed our love, our sadness, our separations in folk songs. The Türkü has been the medium through which we have sent our messages.
The songs are ours, the songs are yours. It is our duty to transmit our folk songs to new generations.
How well Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu expressed it; “Whenever I hear a village folk song, I am ashamed of my poetry...”
