"Carol", one of the eagerly awaited films of the Oscar season, received Golden Globe nominations in five categories, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film, which was praised for the captivating performances of Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, was inspired by Patricia Highsmith's passionate novel and was adapted for the big screen after an eleven-year production process. In the story set in 1950s New York, store clerk Therese (Rooney Mara), longing for the beautiful life of her dreams, meets the attractive Carol (Cate Blanchett), who is bored in a boring marriage. These two women, who bond with each other, have to face the obstacles they encounter when they decide to leave their past behind and move away. Directed by Todd Haynes, "Carol" won Rooney Mara the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. At the same time, Carter Burwell's music and Oscar nominee Ed Lachman's cinematography are some of the notable elements of the film.
