Director and screenwriter Hong Sang-Soo was born in 1961 in Seoul. He studied cinema at Chung-Ang University in South Korea, the California College of Arts and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in USA. Hemade his directorial debut with “The Day a Pig Fell into the Well”in 1996, winning great acclaim and establishing himself as a leading Korean filmmaker. In his films, Hong has largely focused on human relationships, and the inability of people to ever truly connect, with a sharp social insight and satirical tone.
