Anna Smith from Deadline writes; “"Winners, is an ode to cinema and the joys it brings, and it also pays tribute to the great achievements of Iranian filmmakers, dedicating the work to Abbas Kiarostami, Asghar Farhadi, Majid Maijdi and Jafar Panahi.” Inspired by the director Hassan Nazer’s own childhood, Winners is set in a small town in Iran. 9 year old Yahya and his friend Leyla work hard to support their families. One day they discover what appears to be a precious statue. Sharing a love of cinema, Yahya and Leyla, with the help of Yahya’s boss Naser Khan, embark on a journey to find the owner of the statue. The film was selected as the British entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards but was not selected.
