The film is set on the campus of the China Southern Academy of Arts in the early 1990s, in the background of the reforms that opened China to the Western world. It tells the story of a group of university students caught between tradition and modernity, and their first steps into adulthood, intertwined with love and friendship, artistic pursuits, ideals and ambitions. The Chinese animation film was nominated for Best Film at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Golden Bear Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.
