Winter Light, the second film of Bergman's The Silence of God trilogy, focuses on man's relationship with God and religion, like the other films of the trilogy; He speaks of "permeated," in Bergman's words. The film, which is about a priest who questions his existence and has lost his faith, and his relationships with those who ask for his help and those who want to help him, presents the snowy and cold days of the Swedish countryside with a serene and poetic cinematography. Winter Light, in which the threat of nuclear war permeates every moment of the 1960s, also bears traces from Bergman's own life.
