Cemal işlediği cinayet sonrası bir madene kaçıp, ölüm korkusuyla saklanır. Peşinde onu kovalayan bir başka adamsa dışardan görünen tüm cesaretine rağmen öldürmekten korkmaktadır. Bu iki adamın ortak noktası ise Zeynep adlı bir kadındır. Aslında Cemal’le evli olan Zeynep, seneler önce Cumali adlı bir adamla tutkulu bir ilişki yaşar ama Cumali de evlidir. Geriye dönüşler ve şimdiki zaman, geçmiş ve gelecek arasındaki geçişlerle bu üç insanın öyküsünü beyazperdeye taşıyan, gerçek hayat hikâyelerinden kurgulanan filmde başrol oyuncuları haricinde görünen insanların maden ocağı çalışanları ve aileleri olması, madencilerin yaşamına bir pencere açışıyla filme yer yer belge niteliği kazandırıyor.

After committing a murder, Cemal runs away and hides in a mine out of fear of death. Another man who is chasing Cemal is afraid of killing him, despite all his apparent courage. What these two men have in common is a woman named Zeynep, who is married to Cemal. She had a passionate relationship with a man named Cumali years ago, but Cumali was also married. The film, which brings the story of these three people to the big screen with flashbacks and transitions between present, past, and future is based on real-life stories. The people who appear in the movie, other than the leading actors, are mine workers and their families, giving the movie a documentary quality by opening a window into the lives of the miners.
This year, The Load is showcased in celebration of Tülin Özen's receipt of the Bilge Olgaç Achievement Award from the Flying Broom Foundation.
