"39 BUÇUK BASAMAK"
"A Fantastically Appropriate Temasha in Abesle Dabbling!"
"Early Republican years, Istanbul.
John Buchan, a budding Scottish writer, settles in the Pera Palas Hotel to work on his adventure novel.
However, he is unaware that he will become the prime suspect in a criminal case at the Feshane festivities he attends on a holiday night, and that he will be chased by the police, spies and jurnalists.
Becoming the main target of a national manhunt, John disguises himself, hops on the Anatolian Express departing from Haydarpaşa and sets off to the "Middle of the World" to exonerate himself.
To Akşehir, where the right hind leg of Nasreddin Hodja's donkey stepped.
The adventure he was chasing is now chasing him."
John Buchan's novel "The 39 Steps", which has inspired many iconic thrillers, especially James Bond, has been adapted into movies, radio and theater plays many times since Alfred Hitchcock brought it to the big screen.
This time, "39 and a Half Steps" makes John Buchan, the creator of the novel, the protagonist of the play.
And taking as a precedent the fact that the author's sequel novel "Green Caftan" is set in Turkey, "39 and a Half Steps" takes place in the Early Republican Era, in Istanbul, where the East and the West shake hands.
It turns into an astonishing historical fiction extending to Anatolia.
*This play is the result of an effort to narrate an international avant-garde with our authentic cultural memory and to create a cross-genre hybrid genre in the art of theater.
