Dystopian Youth Musical "Dolap" on the theatre stage
Founded as a social initiative to support the development of children and young people through theatre-centred art programmes, Çocuk Genç Sanat Theatre meets you at Fişekhane with Turkey's biggest children and youth musical DOLAP.
The theatre, dance and music activities of hundreds of children and young people are brought to the stage with an original play. A giant production of 45 people in two acts.
They were on a bridge between what they had to be and what they wanted to be.
The locker takes place in a school corridor, in front of the school lockers, in a possible future, at a time when time is not determined. It tells the story of young people who try to go beyond the system and what they have been taught in order to find their own identities among traditions, impositions and rules, searching for their most distinctive characteristics.
This original and different text written by Yonca İnal, which will make an important contribution to the understanding of adolescence by young people and families, was brought together with the music of Orçun Tekelioğlu and the choreography of Ece Irmak Albayrak.
Yonca İnal, the writer and director of the play, said: "We are trying to draw a safe path for children and young people. We create artificial paradises for them. We often squeeze them so that they can progress on this path. We determine who they are, we don't ask them who they want to be, at best we pretend to ask them. We don't allow them to be themselves. Now in this time, or in the past, or in another unknown time, in the future... Unless this cycle is broken, they will not be able to fulfil their potential. Closet is a play that asks, makes us ask and seeks answers for the dream of building a better world."
