"I'm being bad, just to be a good person"
Hamlet says something like that. Isn't it a strange point of view? He means that if I have a good goal, I can do evil to achieve it. Is it necessary to point out that "good" is a very relative matter here? That is, a good goal justifies the evil done in pursuit of it. Richard III has a good goal of his own; to make himself king. But don't ask if he has the right to be king, who has the right to be king; it is for those who can afford it. The play is the story of Richard III's jaw-dropping actions and journey that he is capable of doing to reach the goal he is passionate about. When you have a goal to which you are passionately committed - and I hope you don't - evil can and should be used as a cheeky, unwarranted joke. But this evil is very different from the banality* that Nazism reduces evil to; it is a "sincere" evil caused by passion/desire - paradoxically, both are necessary for life. On stage, Richard III tells his story with excitement, acting, sometimes supported by video, as if he were at a... X conference, of course without neglecting to entertain his audience.
