Choosing Çanakkale's Yenice town as his location, the director chose an Istanbul under the snow for his movie Uzak. The film tells the story of a man who loses the meaning of his life as he starts to move away from his ideals and dreams of going far away, and a young man who comes to Istanbul to realize his dreams. Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who has an understanding of cinema, not only wrote and directed the film, but also did the cinematography himself. The last film of the director, who is known for basing his cinema on oriental slowness and simplicity, was considered his most mature work.
Distant received the Best Film award at the 39th Golden Orange Film Festival, while Mehmet Emin Toprak received the Best Supporting Actor and Ceylan the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards.
