Sinopsis (ENG):
In 1962 Germany, a 12-year-old girl runs away from home and seeks refuge at a police station. Judge Lamy and his secretary Erika decide to help this nervous and silent child, who is trying to protect herself from her abusive father, and to make her voice heard. Karla is taken into protection at a convent, and the legal process begins. Rainer Bock, a veteran actor who has appeared in over 120 films and television series, including Michael Haneke’s White Ribbon, plays the judge who risks his career to ensure justice, while Elise Krieps, daughter of one of the best actresses of our time, Vicky Krieps and German actor Jonas Laux, portrays Karla. Screenwriter Yvonne Görlach based the story on the experiences of a relative. Director Christina Tournatzés, realistically and masterfully brings the atmosphere, conditions, and understanding of the period to the screen with the help of skillful production design. Centering on Karla’s resistance to her father’s actions dictating her life and her use of her will, the film leaves violence outside the frame, only hinting at it through sound and visual effects.
