The year, circa 1250. Anatolia is pillaged by Mongol raids and plunders and the whole region totters with social and political instability. This is a land of famine and drought, and Yunus Emre, the eye, ear, tongue, and heart’s bidding of Anatolian man, will come to the stage to tell his life story in three distinct phases.
His story begins as a simple Anatolian villager before he enters the Dergâh (Convent) of Taptuk. Once there, he will slowly but assuredly expand on his love for God and ripen his thoughts towards compassion, love, good deeds, and good morality. Through Sufism, he will reach a Sublime level of understanding of the world, which was born out of war and devastation, but now a reflection of the tremendous gyre of harmony put in place by God. With a broadened horizon and a deeper understanding of the ways of the world, order, and God, Yunus' world is now wrought by love, peace, and amity. We will listen to the hymns, poems, and folk songs that came from Yunus; see his troubles, suffering, and struggles until he finds the knowledge for God, which, he, with ease, passes onto us in our modern day, sharing the language of love, peace, compassion, and amity.
