Dhafer Youssef Concert
Dhafer Youssef will be at CSO Ada Ankara on Wednesday, June 18th with his album "Streets of Minarets"!
As one of the pioneers of the contemporary music movement that masterfully blends Eastern and Western sounds, Dhafer Youssef is coming to Ankara with his boundary-defying oud performance and mesmerizing vocals. His latest album, Streets of Minarets, is the result of five years of exploration and meticulous work—transforming the inspiration drawn from his roots into a brand new musical journey alongside world-renowned musicians.
In the album, Youssef joins forces with legendary names such as Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Nguyên Lê, Dave Holland, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Ambrose Akinmusire; blending the warm timbre of the oud with jazz, funk, rock, Indian, Arabic, and Western classical music. "Streets of Minarets" takes listeners on a journey through both space and time, building a bridge from the echoes of the past to the sounds of the future.
Highlighting the theme of travel at the heart of the album, Youssef says, “While searching for new sounds across the world, I reinterpreted the vocal effects that have been with me since childhood and the tones inspired by the call to prayer.” In his own words, with this album, Youssef builds a bridge from his childhood to today, from the evolution of jazz in the 50s and 80s to the music of the present day.
