Falstaff İDOB
The opera "Falstaff", to be staged by the İstanbul State Opera and Ballet, is Giuseppe Verdi's last masterpiece.
It is known that Verdi's admiration for Shakespeare was one of the biggest reasons why Verdi wanted to compose the work, which was adapted from William Shakespeare's plays "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and "Henry IV”. The libretto of the piece was written by Arrigo Boito.
Verdi mentioned that after composing many dramatic and tragic operas, he took great pleasure in composing this humorous, witty, and comic opera.
In the play, which takes place in England in the 14th century, a chain of events unleashes when one of Shakespeare's most entertaining characters, the chubby playboy Falstaff, tries to seduce two good friends, Alice Ford and Meg Page, who are also married.
In this human comedy; there is love, money, greed, intrigues… and in short, at the end of confusion where all human emotions are disposed, it is emphasized that in this world which is full of fools, everything is a joke.
The director of the piece, which will be performed in Italian, is Renato Bonajuto. The conductor is Roberto Gianola. The scenic design is by Efter Tunç, the costume design is by Ayşegül Alev, and the lighting design is by Yakup Çartık. The choirmaster of the piece is Paolo Villa.
