The acclaimed first movie introduced the audience to the intriguing and non-utopian culture of Panem. It told the story of twelve oppressed districts that each year send one girl and one boy to the glittering capital to fight for survival, and now the movie picks up where it left off...
It begins with Katniss Everdeen and her comrade Peeta Mellark winning the 74th Hunger Games and returning home safely. Winning means they have to leave their families and friends behind and embark on a "Victory Tour", which requires them to travel through all the districts one by one. Along the way, Katniss realizes that an uprising is about to begin. But the capital is still largely under the control of President Snow. Unaware of everything, Snow is busy preparing the 75th anniversary of the Hunger Games, an event that could change the whole of Panem. For Katniss Everdeen, the stakes have never been higher. It seems like only yesterday that she was fighting to prolong this shameful, bloody competition for her oppressed nation. Now the annual Hunger Games are upon us again, and this year is even more important as it's a "Third Quarter Centennial Games" featuring Katniss and all the other past winners who never dreamed they'd return to the arena.
