Hazel, a survivor of a boating accident, tries to build a future in the country she has immigrated to. However, in the process, she finds herself caught between cultural values and family obligations. She strives to strike a balance between the opportunities offered by modern life and the restrictions placed on women’s freedom in her own culture. While her family wants her to get married, what Hazel needs is to feel more free and accepted. Hamza, meanwhile, is sentenced to prison after surviving the boat accident. Because of what he experiences and the emotions he feels during his time in prison, he becomes estranged from his friends and his hometown. For these reasons, he plans to move to another country to build a new life. However, his desire to rediscover his roots and his struggle to redefine his identity create an internal conflict within him. Afghan Khaled, having survived the boat accident, tries to make a living as a shepherd in his village. He falls in love with the village headman’s daughter and finds meaning in his life through her. However, there are major obstacles he must overcome in order to marry her. The village’s traditions are not very welcoming of marriage to an outsider, and Khaled is unsure of what he must do to marry the village headman’s daughter. The stories of these three characters revolve around universal themes such as migration, identity, family ties, and love. Each faces their own unique challenges and conflicts. By delving deeply into the characters’ inner struggles and the critical turning points in their lives, the film reveals to the audience the universality and complexity of the human experience.
