In his English-language debut, Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai takes us on a dramatic journey through the distance between heartbreak and a new beginning. Heartbroken Elizabeth (Norah Jones) decides to leave behind everything in her life, her dream and her friend Jeremy (Jude Law), with whom she has become emotionally close, and embarks on a journey across America in search of something that can mend her broken heart.During her journey, she works as a waitress and meets Arnie (David Strathain), a cop and his wife Sue Lynne (Rachel Weisz), and Leslie (Natalie Portman), a gambler who has problems with her father and a cop in Memphis who is far more sad and troubled than she is. As Elizabeth gets to know these people, she witnesses the true depth of loneliness and deprivation and begins to realize that this journey is part of her search.
