The Boy and the Heron, which was shown as the opening film of the Toronto Film Festival, takes place during the Second World War and follows little Mahito. Having lost his mother, Mahito has to rush to the countryside to live with his father. Here he plays around an abandoned tower, and a gray heron constantly appears in front of him. He soon realizes that nothing is as it seems.
