Pride and Prejudice is adapted from Jane Austen’s novel about five sisters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia Bennet. The story is set in Georgean-era England. The family’s life is turned upside down by the arrival of their new neighbors: Mr. Bingley, a young and wealthy man, and his closest friend, Mr. Darcy. The girls’ mother, Mrs. Bennet, is eager for them to marry. She decides that Mr. Bingley is a suitable match. This suitor, however, is taken with Jane. Noticing this, their mother sends her daughter to Bingley’s estate on a rainy day. Unable to return, Jane then falls ill. When Elizabeth goes to help her, she, too, finds herself under Mr. Darcy’s watchful eye. Although Elizabeth enjoys this situation, she will be far more captivated by Mr. Wickham. When Lydia recklessly gets involved, the concept of courage is laid bare. On a path where pride takes precedence over love, the sisters’ lives will become unexpectedly complicated.
