Shakespeare's King Lear, known as the greatest tragedy written in the history of literature, offers the audience a striking and emotional play with the performance of Ian McKellen in the leading role, in its performance produced by Chichester Festival Theatre. Two fathers who are getting older - one a king, the other a courtier - reject their sons who love them very much. While this situation unleashes a ruthless whirlwind of ambition and betrayal, the family and the state are dragged into a violent power conflict that ends bitterly. Following its performance in the West End, King Lear is brought to the cinema screen with National Theater Live.
