Being one of the favourite contenders of the Documentary Competition of Berlin IFF, the film looks back at the youth of the famous director, Ulrike Ottinger herself. Documenting the time while she was living in Paris as a painter in the 1960s, Ottinger presents her Parisian life in a cinematic poem with the city, Paris, in the center. The film is composed of found footage, film clips and home movies, all black and white, with a voiceover from Ottinger looking back in time. As she presents her memories of the bohèmian life and decolonical movements, the audience also gets a chance to experience the multi-ethnic society of the city a decisive era both in art – as Dada and Surrealism gave way to Situationism and Pop Art – and in politics where, in-between post-war hopes, the Algerian conflict and the student movements of 1968.
