Two Against The Law

CLASSİCS

*French; Turkish and English Subtitles

*Alain Delon who passed away on August 18, often played criminals in his films, and seldom law enforcement. There is unlikely another actor whose filmography is so closely related with the themes of crime and punishment. Two Men in Town, in which he co-stars with the acclaimed actor of French cinema Jean Gabin, stands out with its opposition to the capital punishment at a time when guillotine was still in use in France. The film, which draws references to Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, is entirely set inside the judicial system —from police investigations to the courts and penal institutions— opening up various discussion topics. It contains exemplary quotes like Jean Gabin’s character saying: “I have a personal opinion on justice: It should be fair, but not fierce.”
