With its breathless pace in the middle of the desert, wrapped in the hypnotizing rhythm of rave music, Sırat is a diary of an epic journey that appeals to all the senses; according to The Hollywood Reporter, it is "a techno-spiritual meditation on death and grief," but also a science fiction in the shadow of the apocalypse. Sirat follows a father and his son as they search for their daughter Mar, who has disappeared deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. A film that is eye-catching with the grainy texture of super 16mm film and tests the viewer with breathless tension as the title suggests, Sırat is Laxe's first film since Fire Will Come, which was released in 2020. Director Oliver Laxe describes his film as follows: "Sirat is an inner path that leads you to death without dying. Just like the main character experiences. It is also the name of the bridge between hell and heaven. I hope that Sirat will ignite a spark hidden inside us and make us look back into our souls." Sirat was Spain's Oscar nominee.
