Lowen Ashleigh, a writer facing financial difficulties, moves into her family’s home to finish the unfinished books of the famous author Verity Crawford—and there she discovers a disturbing manuscript about Verity’s past.

In the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, Lowen accepts an offer to continue Verity’s book series after Verity is left unable to write following an accident, and moves into the Crawford family home to work. There, the young writer discovers Verity’s secret notes and begins to question whether what she’s reading is a genuine confession or mere fiction.
