Central Anatolian Folk Songs
Central Anatolian Folk Songs
Neşet Ertaş, who recorded on vinyl a rich set of Central Anatolian folk songs and ballads in the 1950s, made himself a name by performing songs he himself wrote after the 60s. Until this day, his works have been covered by nearly all folk singers and continuing to be performed everywhere. He was so good of an artist and person that UNESCO declared him a living human treasure in 2009. “The Plectrum of the Moorland” was the nickname given to him by Yaşar Kemal so as to refer to his works that were born in Central Anatolia. In the 9th year of his passing, İstanbul State Turkish Folk Music artists İsmail Altunsaray and Nilgün Kızılcı will be commemorating Neşet Artaş, singing his own songs.
