Considered a landmark of the French New Wave and one of the foundations of modern cinema, Breathless recounts the brief yet unforgettable story of Michel Poiccard, a small-time criminal on the run, and Patricia Franchini, an American student chasing her dream of becoming a journalist in Paris. Raoul Coutard’s striking black-and-white cinematography, the use of natural light, and Martial Solal’s jazz-infused score define the film’s restless rhythm and revolutionary spontaneity. Jean-Paul Belmondo’s effortless charm and Jean Seberg’s delicate poise capture both the spirit of their generation and the New Wave’s pursuit of the “free individual.” A timeless manifesto on crime, love, and death, Breathless remains Jean-Luc Godard’s most iconic declaration of cinematic freedom.

Jean-Luc Godard: (1930–2022, Fransa) Fransız Yeni Dalgası'nın köşe taşlarından ve sinema tarihinin en devrimci yönetmenlerinden biridir. Kariyerine Cahiers du cinéma dergisinde oldukça etkili bir eleştirmen olarak başladı. İlk uzun filmi “Serseri Aşıklar” ile sinema dilini kökten değiştirdi. “Le Mépris” (1963), “Pierrot le Fou” (1965), “Alphaville” gibi yapıtlarında uyguladığı biçimsel deneyler ve politik/felsefi sorgulamalarıyla birçok yönetmene ilhâm verdi.

(1930–2022, France) was a cornerstone of the French New Wave and one of the most revolutionary filmmakers in cinema history. He began his career as a highly influential critic for Cahiers du Cinéma before redefining film aesthetics and narrative structure. His feature debut, Breathless, fundamentally transformed the language of cinema. Through his bold formal experiments and his political and philosophical inquiries in films such as Le Mépris (1963), Pierrot le Fou (1965), and Alphaville (1965), Godard inspired generations of filmmakers and forever altered the course of modern film.
