Sans soleil
Words and images from places as far apart as Japan, Guinea-Bissau, Iceland, and San Francisco...
Director: Chris Marker
ABOUT
Sans soleil
Images and sounds from Japan, the Bijago Islands of Guinea, and Cape Verde... The narrator, who travels the world, tells us that the only thing that captures his interest is the ordinary. He immerses us in the most ordinary daily lives in completely different places, taking us on a journey through the most ordinary settings, accompanied by breathtaking scenery. We witness religious rituals, street performances, and celebrations. Marker’s masterpiece, *Sans Soleil*, is a unique work that is at once an anthropological study, a philosophical essay on the concept of time, and an example of poetic cinema.
